Capturing nightscapes and the Milky Way over the most picturesque areas of this Annapurna Circuit region

Annapurna Circuit Milkyway Workshop

Our Annapurna Circuit Astrophotography Workshop will concentrate on capturing nightscapes and the Milky Way over the most picturesque areas of this unique region. Annapurna Circuit has been designated as the largest Dark Sky National Park, providing us with the perfect conditions to capture dark, starry skies.

During our Milky Way Astrophotography Expedition to Annapurna, I will personally assist you in capturing the best possible Milkyway images. I will provide online and offline workshops and demonstrate the best techniques for shooting the Milky Way with a star-tracker. We will also have intensive post-processing sessions to ensure that you can make the most of the images you capture in the field. The group is limited to just ten people, allowing for intimate and productive sessions, ensuring that you receive the best possible hands-on experience.

This Annapurna Astrophotography Workshop is designed for photographers with a solid foundation in Milky Way and nightscape photography. Our focus will be on using star-trackers in the field and advanced techniques in post-processing. If you are just starting out in Milky Way photography, I recommend joining our Starhunter basic Milky Way Photography Workshop instead.

RECOMMENDED CAMERA EQUIPMENT

To participate in this workshop, it is necessary that you own a DLSR or Mirrorless camera that allows manual adjustment of Aperture, Exposure Duration and ISO. Additionally, your camera should have the capacity for interchangeable lenses – preferably a FAST (F2.8 or faster) and WIDE (20MM or wider, with 14MM being the ideal) lens, and 50mm-200mm for astroscape photography.

In case you don’t have the necessary equipment, you can rent lenses or astrocameras from www.starhunter.com.my. A tripod is also required for this workshop. For image processing purposes, you may bring a laptop. Upon completing your registration, you will receive a preparation guide and a list of helpful applications for night photography.

WHAT TO BRING TO ANNAPURNA ASTRO-EXPEDITION

A complete list of everything that we recommend for this tour is sent to all participants upon sign-up. Below, you can find a summary of things you might need:

PHOTOGRAPHY GEAR

  • A mirrorless or DSLR camera.
  • A sturdy tripod and a remote shutter.
  • A wide-angle lens, from 14 to 35 mm.
  • A medium zoom lens, such as 35-50 mm.
  • A star-tracker.
  • A polarie/laser/asiair for doing polar alignment.
  • A camera bag to transport all your equipment.
  • A headlamp.

For Milky Way tracking during this workshop, we recommend using prime lenses over zoom lenses. While zoom lenses are acceptable, prime lenses such as the 20mm, 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 40mm, and 50mm with f/1.4 or f/1.8 aperture are preferred. You can purchase these lenses from your camera brand or from third-party manufacturers such as Tamron, Rokinon, or Sigma Art.

It’s important to note that this astrophotography workshop will focus on Milky Way Nightscapes rather than deep-sky imaging. However, if you’re interested in taking your own deep-sky photos, you’re welcome to bring a telephoto lens or telescope.
